Until now, the only task news the bell carried was a new report or an @mention, so a task could be reassigned, resolved or argued about in the comments without the people on it knowing. Now it tells them.
Assigned to you when a task is assigned to you, or created with you as its assignee.
New comment when someone comments on a task you're involved in. The email quotes the start of the comment.
Status changed when it moves column: resolved, reopened or moved to In Progress.
Property changed when its priority, labels, due date or one of your custom properties changes.

Who hears about it
The people the task concerns: whoever created it, its assignee, anyone named in one of its member properties, such as a Reviewer, and everyone who has commented on it. There's nothing to follow or subscribe to. To bring someone into a task, assign it to them or name them in a member property.
The person who made the change is never notified, and that includes changes their AI assistant makes through MCP. Everyone else reads Alex Rivera via MCP.
Quiet by design
One person's property changes to a task within five minutes are one notification, so a triage pass over priority, labels and due date doesn't send three.
Moving, assigning or prioritising 30 tasks at once is one notification per person, and it opens the board.
If a comment @mentions you, you get the mention, not a second "new comment".
The emails go out on every plan, Free included, to verified addresses with Email notifications on under account settings β My notifications.
